Bill Adams received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1967. He retired in 2008 and became an Energy Consultant for Flowserve Pump Division. Here are some of Bill’s results: Developed new product technology and marketing plans for over a dozen $10 million market sectors Holds ten US patents relative to seal and pump technology Authored more than 30 publications in trade journals Authored ten papers at Texas A&M Pump Symposium Formed Pump Systems Matter, a 501-C3 Energy Efficiency Group Consultant to companies on government affairs and R&D funding Raised over $15 million in government funding for training, education, research and development During his 40 years of experience with the Flowserve Corporation, he has held assignments as a Research Engineer (1967-1974); Assistant Manager of Engineering and Chief Design Engineer (1974-1981); Director of Engineering (1981-1984); Vice President of Engineering and Research (1984); in July 1989 Vice President of Quality Assurance was added to his responsibilities. In October 1992, Bill was made Vice President of Technology and Quality Assurance. In 1997, when Durametallic became Flowserve Corporation, Flow Solutions Division, his responsibilities as Vice President of Technology and Quality Assurance became world wide. Most recently in 2001 his responsibilities broadened to include Marketing and Educational Services. In 2003 Bill joined Corporate Marketing to become Director of New Business Development. Professionally, he has served on the ASME B73 Chemical Pump Standards Committee. He is past Chairperson of the Seals Technical Committee of STLE (Society of Tribologists & Lubrication Engineers) and has served as their Educational Committee Chairperson, Vice Chairperson of their Standards Committee, Chairperson of the STLE Seals Technical Committee, Sealing Systems Technical Subcommittee and Work Group 3 on Emissions, and was a member of the Advisory Board to the Texas A&M International Pump Symposium. He has served as Director of STLE and was a member of the API 682 Seals Standard Committee. In May 1999 Bill was given the prestigious award of STLE Fellow which establishes his leadership role in our industry and the respect he has earned among peers. He is a member of the Hydraulics Institute, Market Transformation, Fluid Sealing Association, and P3-A. In recent years, he has become extremely interested in world energy consumption and is working with local, state, and the Federal Government to find ways to limit its use. He is the current Co-Chairman of Pump Systems Matter Market Transformation Initiative, and in 2006, he became Vice President of the Fluid Sealing Association. Bill initiated the successful collaboration between the former Durametallic Corporation (now Flowserve) and Western Michigan University. In 1994 his vision and leadership led to the formation of the Advanced Tribology Center at Western Michigan University and the leveraging of well over $8.5 million in government funds and grants. With his continued leadership, the center has developed into an internationally recognized research and testing facility. He is a “visionary” who is constantly looking for ways of improving the company and making things better for the people it employs. In 2002 working with Southwest Michigan First and Michigan Technical Education Center at Kalamazoo Valley Community College he successfully launched a new Flowserve Training Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This program combines the talents of both organizations to bring industry programs and courses that train new Technicians and enhances the skills of existing craftsmen. |
